THERE is an opportunity for the Federal Government to work with the State Government on regional rail in Victoria according to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Darren Chester.
Mr Chester was speaking on the 8.20am Melbourne to Albury service from Seymour after accepting to take a firsthand look at the condition of one of the state’s major railway lines.
Passengers on the Seymour, Shepparton and North East lines have faced regular delays and cancellations with many having travelled more on replacement buses than the regular train service.
During the journey Mr Chester met with community representatives, local media and Councils to discuss transport needs along with the Federal Government’s commitment to support local jobs, and small businesses throughout the region.
During the journey, Mr Chester told the North Central Review that he has had some positive discussions with State Minister Jacinta Allen and was optimistic there will be opportunities for the two governments to work together to improve the service.
