Railroaded

THE Seymour line will only receive $20 million of the State Government’s $1.4 billion Regional Rail Revival package that was announced at the weekend and none of it will be for new trains.
The money will be spent on upgrades at stations on the Seymour line including with Wallan and Donnybrook singled out for the lion’s share.
Close to $800 million is going to Gippsland, Geelong and Ballarat. The transport minister, Jacinta Allen's Bendigo electorate gets the next big slice.
But in less than 24 hours after the announcement the project has hit a snag – due mainly to the fact that 100 per cent of the project funding is Federal money and the federal Infrastructure Minister Darren Chester has said that the regional rail upgrade won’t go ahead unless the Victorian government is prepared to pay its share.
