THE residential development on Kilmore’s Brewery Hill is to go ahead following a decision to grant a permit at the April meeting of Mitchell Shire Council.
However the decision, carried six votes to three, came only after considerable debate on the pros and cons of the development.
The recommendation to approve the development was put to the vote and was carried with no less than 42 conditions attached to the approval.
While the site has been nominated to be included on the Victorian Heritage Register and a Heritage Council decision is pending, it does not prevent council making a decision as the two processes are independent of each other from a statutory approvals perspective.
Brewery Hill has played a significant role in Kilmore’s history over the years from its establishment of a brewery in 1850 to its closing in 1905.
