IT was a celebration of dedication and commitment to what was always best for the students of Pyalong Primary School when the school community gathered to farewell former principal Catherine Hoey on Friday, August 4.
Celebrating 19 years of service to the school, 15 years as principal, Ms Hoey was hailed as a guiding light in providing programs that could unlock the potential of each student and working tirelessly to improve facilities and programs within the school.
The gathering saw former colleagues, previous and current school community members including members of the school council and parents committees, and most especially the past and present students touched by her gifts oftime and care.
Ms Hoey first came to the school in 1997 with her husband Michael and said she “immediately fell in love with it.”
“I fell in love with the step. A step worn down by the feet of many, many children who have passed through the old door over the years. I fell in love with the history of that and the permanence of the old building and I just thought I would love to work here,” Ms Hoey said.
“I was lucky enough to be able to do that in 1999 and then fell in love with the hardworking and dedicated staff.”
