WITH legends of yesteryear looking on, Wallan senior footballers had plenty to play for againstBroadford in round 15 action of the Riddell District Football Netball League on Saturday at Greenhill Reserve.
While the 1977 premiership side reminisced about days gone by, the Magpies demonstrated just why they are the success story of recent years in the RDFNL competition.
With their sights set on the upcoming finals campaign, Wallan took no prisoners in a demolition of the Roos that did not quit until the final siren sounded.
“It was a special day for us where we had our ‘77 premiership side in attendance, we already had a lot to play for but this gave us an extra incentive to perform with these gentlemen in attendance, “ assistant coach Spencer Mathieson said.
“We knew going in Broadford are a very young side and have had a long, tough year but we needed to win this game well and we had to be ruthless this week which we were.
“We had 33 scoring shots in the first half so it was an excellent effort and we continued it the second half to get the percentage boosting result we needed.”
Wallan played like a side possessed at times, with a full spread of contributors in a very professional performance.
